Pedestrians

January 10, 2019

A binaural audio experience created by Master's students at the University of Hull.

Pedestrians: Awards

Following a controversial police publication on Surrey Police’s website, Pedestrians was devised of verbatim accounts of advice and warnings about the act of walking home alone at night. This piece asked participants to walk in the shoes of a young woman alone on an evening out, with memories of the conflicting advice she has been given racing through her mind.

Performed in January, when the end of the working day is shrouded in darkness, participants were invited to put in a pair of headphones and walk across a designated route listening to these words of apparent wisdom. Accompanied by a backdrop of binaural audio participants questioned whether the sounds of sirens, footsteps, and voices were from the world of the sound-scape, or were from the real world.

Rebecca worked collaboratively with Masters Students from the University of Hull to write and record the audio experience. Listen to the track below.
